The Lonely Planet indicates DR Congo as a destination worth visiting. The Democratic Republic of Congo formerly Zaire is the ultimate African adventure with absolutely nothing neither soft nor easy about it but providing the most enjoyable experience that no tourists will ever forget. The country is located in South Central Africa with a narrow strip of land on the northern bank of the Zaire River.

It is bound by the Republic of Congo and the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Angola to the southwest, Zambia to the southeast, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda and Uganda to the east, Sudan to the northeast and the Central African Republic to the north and northwest. Democratic republic of Congo is blesses with may natural and manmade features some of which are not found anywhere else in the world , the most interesting  tourism activities that every traveler to the DRC must not miss out include the following:

Mount Nyiragongo Climbing

Situated in the virunga national park, mount Nyiragongo is one of the most Africa’s most exciting and rewarding hiking experiences. It is rising majestically to an altitude of 3470m overlooking the Virungas National Park and associated Albertine Rift. The mountain is a spectacular stratovolcano that hosts one of the world’s largest and rarest lava lakes and the rout to climb Nyiragingo was re -opened to the mountain climbers in October 2014. At the summit of the mountain are craters and the main crater is about two kilometers wide and usually contains a lava lake. The crater presently has two distinct cooled lava benches within the crater walls – one at about 3,175 m (10,417 ft) and a lower one at about 2,975 m (9,760 ft). The most impressive forms of volcanic activity at the lava lakes are no doubt and travelers are assured of witnessing these formations.

It is so interesting that after arriving at the summit, travelers are able to observe its bubbling lava cauldron but viewing from a safe distance and feel this volcano’s energy, as it heaves and breathes. Once travelers opt for an overnight stay at Mount Nyiragongo’s crater edge allows them to enjoy this spectacle in the dark, but also at dawn and dusk when its alluring beauty is enhanced. Trekking takes a maximum of 5 hours and therefore travelers have ample time to observe fully and acquire great experience never to forget.

Gorilla trekking

Mountain gorilla tracking in the Democratic Republic of Congo is done in the virunga national park part of the conservation area that stretches across the borders of Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Travelers will cross over to Rwanda for Trekking in the neighboring volcanoes national park in Rwanda. Virunga national park in the Democratic Republic of Congo is one of the four national parks in the whole world that share 880 mountain gorillas in the whole world alongside Bwindi impenetrable forest national park and Mgahinga gorilla national park in Uganda and volcanoes national park in Rwanda.

Lake Kivu

Standing at a height of 1,460 meters above sea level, lake kivu  covers a total surface area of some 2,700 km2 (1,040 sq mi) Some 1 370 km2 . The lake  lies on the border between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, and is in the Albertine Rift, the western branch of the East African Rift but the largest part of the lake is in DRC  taking 58% of it. The lake bed sits upon a rift valley that is slowly being pulled apart, causing volcanic activity in the area, and making it particularly deep. The lake is free from crocodiles and hippos and can therefore support swimming, fishing, birding and wild life watching all interesting to the travelers.
